The Pentland Junior Singers – Edinburgh Competition Festival

The Pentland Junior Singers entered their first ever choir competition on 3rd March 2016, taking part in the Edinburgh Competition Festival – Primary School Choirs: 12 and under class.
There were six choirs and we were up against stiff competition. We were the smallest choir with 14 children, others had over 30. We were the only choir which included children from several schools. Each choir sang two pieces.
The Juniors first piece was Shenandoah which the adjudicator comments included “beautiful start – lovely soloist”, “crystal clear with excellent diction” and “beautiful unison tone that is clear and vibrant”

Their second piece was an arrangement of ‘I Love a Piano’ by Irving Berlin. Comments were ” great vocal energy” and “excellent, clear, part singing and a lovely sense of fun”
The adjudicator – Frikki Walker – Director of Music from St Mary’s Cathedral, Glasgow, also said that the Pentland Juniors are a “wonderful wee choir who gave a splendid performance”
There was huge excitement when the results were announced. We were told that two choirs were Highly Commended and to our great delight the Pentland Juniors were one of them! The winners were a school from London. All the Juniors should be extremely proud of their performance.

A huge thank you to Jessica Leary our Musical Director for all her hard work and enthusiasm every week. Thanks also to Justin Nash who was our accompanist at the competition.
